Billie Eilish

- HURTFUL COMMENTS

Billie Eilish has broken her silence to reply to comments critical of her fashion choices.

The singer took to her Instagram at the weekend to respond to hurtful and unwanted comments regarding her clothes in a message she called a “letter to some comments I can be seeing sometimes.”

She wrote: “I spent the first five years of my career getting absolutely obliterated by you fools for being boyish and dressing how I did and constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman. “And now when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I have changed and I am a sell-out.” She ended her message by saying: “Let women exist.” The Grammy-award winner’s style has been the subject of many controversies and criticism since she was 17 years old. She used to wear baggy and oversized outfits to conceal how her body looked because she did not want to reveal everything. She said in an advertisement for Calvin Klein: “I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know?” The singer slightly changed her wardrobe at 18, and by the age of 20 she had revealed a very feminine side of her fashion.

Eilish, now 21, earlier this month appeared at the 2023 Met Gala wearing a black lace gown, custom-made by Simone Rocha, and black see-through gloves and tights. “Femininity does not equal weakness,” she said in an interview with Marie Claire magazine in 2021.

She added: “(It’s) totally unheard of and insane to want to express yourself differently

at different times.”
