Here are some practical ways in which you can practise filial piety, both in the home and when you are out:

-

1. Greet your parents and elder siblings when you rise in the morning, when you return home from school and before going to bed.

2. Spend time together as a family at least once a week, and make time for them, especially on special occasions like the birthdays of your family members.

3. When a parent is unwell, take good care of them by helping them with the chores and making them a hot drink.

4. When you have started earning your keep, contribute to the household income by offering your parents a portion of your salary, so that they are aware of your care and concern for the family.

5. If you face a dilemma between helping a family member and assisting a friend, choose to help your family member first, because as the saying goes, “Charity begins at home”. Following which, offer a helping hand to the friend who needs your support.

6. Spend time with your elderly family members who may be feeling lonely. Reach out to your grandparents, grand-aunts and grand-uncles, if you are in contact with them.

7. Always be on your best behaviour – at home, in school and anywhere else – so that when others see how well-behaved you are, they may attribute your good conduct to the good work that your parents have done in raising you.
