The goals of ASEAN
According to The Bangkok Declaration, the goals of ASEAN are:
1 To collaboratively boost the economic and social growth, and cultural development in Southeast Asia. These projects would be undertaken in the spirit of equality and partnership so as to fortify the groundwork for a flourishing, peaceful community of Southeast Asian nations;
2 To propagate regional peace and stability through long-lasting respect for justice and the rule of law in the rapport among countries of Southeast Asia and observance of the values of the United Nations Charter;
3 To encourage energetic partnership and shared support in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative aspects of Southeast Asia;
4 To provide mutual support and aid in the form of training and research facilities in the fields of education, profession, technical expertise and administration;
5 To work together efficiently to increase the deployment of agriculture and businesses, with the development of the skills involved, including the analysis of the problems of international commodity trade, the enhancement of transportation and communications infrastructure and the improvement of standards of living;
6 To encourage widespread appreciation and engagement in Southeast Asian studies;
7 To ensure that cooperation with other international and regional organisations that hold similar goals are sustained, and to explore all avenues for closer cooperation and collaboration among themselves.
