Have you heard the Chinese New Year story?

-

Another popular Chinese festival is the Hungry Ghost Festival. Observed during the 7th month of the Lunar Calendar, this is when the “Gates of Hell” are opened and souls of the dead are freed and allowed to roam the earth. In order to appease these free spirits, there are Chinese “getai” performances all over the island. Everyone is welcomed to watch the show as long as one does not sit in the front row, which is reserved for these “special guests”. Paper money is also burnt in bins as “wealthoffering” to these wandering spirits.
