Aural Pleasure

Silence is as simple as ear-in and ear-out with the Huawei FreeBuds 4

IT IS BARELY MID-MORNING and two floors above, drilling has begun. I question the purpose of the tiny, printed document plastered at the lift lobby informing residents about the renovations occurring during the work-from-home period. Outside, the overgrown field of weeds and grass has decided it needed to be groomed and the drone of electric trimmers chime in. In that moment, I wished I could afford an entire house to be fitted with soundproofing panels.

I rummage for the FreeBuds 4 instead. The newly launched Huawei product has been a godsend, especially to drown the rest of the world out. It’s Open-Fit ANC 2.0 (Active Noise Cancellation) technology has really been put to the test. These earbuds are barely 4.1 grams each, and the case is a meagre 21.2 millimetres, yet it’s done exceedingly well. Good things do come in small packages.

I simply tap to activate the noise cancellation function and the FreeBuds 4 Adaptive Ear Matching (AEM) technology does the rest. Depending on the level of peace I’m searching for, AEM enhances the level of noise cancellation. The earbuds fit snugly in my ear cavity, providing me with the optimum noise cancellation effect that I need at any time. Pun intended; the silence is music to my ears.

Dual-connectivity is one of the newer functions of the FreeBuds

4. I no longer need to switch my earbud connection from laptop to phone in case of a sudden erratic call. Instead, my ridiculously “loud and noisy” playlist as my mum calls it, continues. As predicted, a call comes in from an unknown number and my FreeBuds 4 seamlessly switches over. Darn it, another spam call.

As Meghan Trainor preached, it’s all about that bass; I’m a firm believer in that and the FreeBuds 4 seem to be as well. Completely upgraded from its predecessor, the sleek earbuds transport me into a different dimension of sound. The earbuds are crafted with a new 14.3mm dynamic driver and produces the most impressive bass sounds. Matt Nichols’-Bring Me The Horizon’s drummer- mercurial bass sounds distract me from typing more so now. Not exactly productive but appreciated. To top it all off, Huawei adopted a newly upgraded bass enhancement engine. The volume of its bass tube is increased by 15 per cent and music is now complete with the intensive resonance effect from both the air and the diaphragm. The usage of a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) composite diaphragm also completes the immersive sound experience, resulting in a richer and fuller treble.

The drilling seems to almost slow down as a long workday comes to an end. I turn off the ANC and give my ears a break for a bit. I never have to worry if my FreeBuds battery is on its last leg. It only takes 15 minutes before I’m back to full-on audio enjoyment. In retrospect, if I was on a 22-hour long flight the FreeBuds would last me the full journey without ANC activation. All I would need is the charging case, complete with quick-charge technology.

Huawei’s FreeBuds 4 is all about comfort to create an optimal user experience. The reduced body size and enhancements ensure that audio listening is a breeze. The overall curvature fits each ear distinctly. The brand promotes convenience and an inter-connected future and the FreeBuds 4 delivers that. As a fashion statement, its minimalistic nature and wearable colours of Silver Frost and Ceramic White make it a perfect partn-ear in crime.

With upgraded technology and a higher performance, the FreeBuds 4 accompanies me in every scenario. It is an escape from the outside world on bad days, my co-star in self-made music videos for long bus rides when it rains, and the provider of ideal freespiritedness when it so happens, I’m walking through a lalang field in the sunset. It’s truly, a FreeBud for every mood.
