THE PHILOSOPHY OF TRAVEL

-

The LXR Hotels & Resorts network is redefining luxury through meaningful experiences that enrich hearts and minds, and not simply the trappings of opulence. LXR is designed for travellers who crave unrivalled accommodations, but who also want to create their own stories by immersing in their destination’s culture and traditions, and interacting with its people.

Opened in September 2021, LXR’s Roku Kyoto is possibly the most luxurious way to experience the cultural capital of Japan. With traditional Kyoto design infused with the modern Japanese aesthetic, 114 guest rooms offer a peaceful sanctuary that underscore the beauty of Japanese materials and craft. The very grounds on which it sits used to be an artisan colony where the Rinpa school of painting was established, and much of the school’s influence on Japanese art and culture has been incorporated into its design.

There is much to discover around the resort too. Situated beneath the breathtaking panorama of the Takagamine mountains, Roku Kyoto comes within the Shozan Resort Kyoto enclave that is famous for its manicured Japanese gardens, historic architecture and authentic tea houses. Kyoto’s iconic Kinkaku-ji “Golden Pavilion” and other historic temples, such as the Koetsuji Temple and the Genkoan Temple, are also within walking distance from the hotel.

Still, the best way to get to the heart of Kyoto is through participating in its crafts. Roku Kyoto understands this and curates special activities for its guests to get acquainted with Kyoto’s philosophical crafts. Among these is Kintsugi, the ancient art of reviving broken pottery with gold and lacquer in the quest of creating something more refined from flaws and brokenness.
