ASICS METASPEED PARIS
In 2021, ASICS revolutionised running shoes design by launching the Metaspeed series, where each type of running shoe is tailored to suit the athlete’s running style. The brand categorises runners into two distinctive running styles: most are called ‘stride’ runners, where they run with a longer gait and longer airborne periods. These runners increase their speed by extending their stride length, and thus the Metaspeed Sky was born to suit them. The other type of runner is called the ‘cadence’ runners, who take smaller steps and hover over the ground with minimal motion. The Metaspeed Edge was designed for them, who increase their speed by both extending their stride length and increasing the number of steps taken per minute.
This year, Asics has expanded the Metaspeed family with the Metaspeed Sky Paris and Metaspeed Edge Paris, which boast a significant improvement compared with their previous models. The most notable difference is the lighter weight, having shaved off approximately 22g of their previous weight, making them one of the lightest running shoes in the market.
This is thanks to the combination of a new Motion Wrap Upper 2.0, which in turn lightens the shoes’ upper and makes the pair more breathable. The new series also feature the FF Turbo Plus midsole foam, which is softer and bouncier compared with the previous versions to save your legs for the longer running distance.
Additionally, the full-length carbon plates have been strategically repositioned to optimise energy return and toe-off efficiency, catering to the distinct running styles of the ‘stride’ and ‘candace’ runners.
