BBC Earth (Asia) - - Update -

Asteroids and comets were born during the early days of the Solar System. Asteroids formed closer to the Sun and are made up of metals and rocky material. Comets formed further away and consist of ice, dust and rocky particles. It is the melting of the ice as a comet approaches the Sun that gives

it a distinctive tail.
