ROCKET LAUNCH LIGHTS UP THE HEAVENS

BBC Earth (Asia) - - Q&A -

This eye-catching spectacle could be seen in the skies above Arizona and California on 22 December 2017, following the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The phenomenon was

caused by the light of the sunset hitting the rocket’s condensation trail and illuminating the early-evening sky

as the Falcon 9 carried communications satellites into space.
