Anx­i­ety is etched across the face of this tiny Hanu­man lan­gur from In­dia, only a few weeks old. Its mouth is com­pletely open, with teeth ex­posed out of ap­pre­hen­sion. A ju­ve­nile fe­male lan­gur had just taken the in­fant from its mother and had been hold­ing it. At first the baby ap­peared re­laxed, but then another young fe­male ap­proached.

With this look the baby is sig­nalling a pref­er­ence for its present min­der.
