Singapore’s War Heroine

Although she was not part of a resistance organisation or military group, Elizabeth Choy is still recognised as one of Singapore’s key war heroines.

During the Japanese Occupation, Elizabeth Choy and her husband helped to bring food, money, medicine and even carried messages for the British. Despite being arrested, tortured and forced to divulge information on their plans, Elizabeth refused to relent. In 1946, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire for her bravery.
