J.R.R Tolkien
Since his death in 1973, many have written about J.R.R. Tolkien.. However, in life, Tolkien was an extremely private person who was very much against having a biography written about him as he felt that the only important biographical information about a writer was about his works.. Tolkein considered personal information highly irrelevant. He kept his life very much a private affair. Even so, fans have unraveled a fair bit of information about the private life of this great writer. He was born in 1892 in South Africa and at age 3, moved to England with his mother and baby brother. He showed a significant interest in languages and began inventing his own. In 1911, he began his studies in Oxford and this was where he furthered his education in language and literature. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the military to help fight in World War 1. While still enlisted, he married his high school sweetheart and shortly thereafter contracted what was then called trench fever. During the several months he spent in the hospital, he began writing stories. These stories led to what we now know as some of the most famous writings to ever come about, such as Middle-earth and The Hobbit.
