Following the long reign of the quill pen, the first ballpoint pen saw light in 1938, through a Hungarian journalist named Laszlo Biro. By that time, the printing press had been establishe­d. Biro noticed that the viscous ink used in newspaper printing dried quickly and left the paper dry and smudge-free. So with the same type of ink, he set out to create a pen.
