The Hobbit

-

How many of you know that a hobbit hole is not a dirty and disgusting thing that reeks of wet dog smell? If you know what a hobbit hole really is, you would know that it is a place of serenity and comfort. The story is a timeless classic that will live on in your imagination for the rest of your days. The book is a prequel to the ever popular, Lord of the Rings trilogy, alos by the same author.

In this amazing plot, you will meet the infamous Bilbo Baggins who is an upstanding member of the hobbit community. This cute and fun character is kind and affectionate and one who loves food and a good smoking pipe. His life is quite ordinary and routine until a fateful visit from Gandalf the Gray who wishes Bilbo to help him with what he calls “a great adventure”. Though the food loving hobbit does not wish to go on an adventure, he is eventually swept away into one. His goal is to get to the lair of the dragon Smaug and retrieve the treasure that the dragon stole from the hobbits long ago. Though Gandalf has asked for Bilbo’s help in this adventure, it appears that the wizard will not actually be with the hobbit along the way. This means that poor Bilbo Baggins will have to brave the darkest corners of the world and encounter a ferocious fire- breathing dragon. Along the way Bilbo faces many obstacles such as ravenous wolves, gigantic spiders, psychotic orcs, killer trolls and most frightening of all – a creature named Gollum. Gollum is a subterranean being who is quite possibly the most disturbing character in the entire story. During this meeting, Bilbo wins a magic ring in a contest of riddles. (This of course is the basis for the Lord or the Rings Trilogy that eventually follows The Hobbit.) It was very lucky that Bilbo won this contest as it was a matter of life or death! The Hobbit is a story that is not only filled with great adventures. It is also a story of unknown strength and courage and of overcoming your fears and learning about yourself.

Throughout Bilbo’s travels, his strength and will are tested time and again, and while at first he did not think he had the courage and tenacity to overcome such amazing, and sometimes horrifying odds, he somehow found a part of himself that he never imagined existed. And, upon returning to his warm and comfortable little hobbit hole, he was never the same again- he was in fact a better hobbit for having gone on the adventure that he never wanted to go on in the first place. This is a story of amazing and unbelievable fantasy that will captivate both children and adults alike and will have you running to the bookstore to get a copy of the next story involving hobbits and magic rings!
