How are Taxes Spent in Singapore?

-

Have you wondered where these taxes go to after they are paid to the government? Well, the money collected from GST, for example, helps the Singapore government to pay for the building of shared infrastructure like schools, roads, hospitals, MRT lines and other public facilities, and also enables subsidies for healthcare, public housing and education. Moreover, the money collected from GST also assists the Singapore government to help lower-income Singaporeans with the introduction of social assistance schemes. Since GST is imposed at a flat rate, the Singapore government ensures that GST does not cause more financial burden to the poor by offering GST Vouchers to lower-income families. In doing so, the government aims to offset what these lower-income families pay in the form of GST. Lower-income Singaporeans are also entitled to gain other financial benefits such as Workfare, public housing, education and public healthcare. All these benefits are funded by the taxes that the government collects.
