Oprah, Annotated

CLEO (Singapore) - - EDITOR'S NOTE -

A few months ago, our office moved to a land far, far away from my house. This was tragic news for my sleep, but good news for my podcast playlist, as it now gets my undivided attention for 45 minutes every morning. This is also great news (maybe) for you, because now, I can distil hundreds of hours of listening into one neat little Editor’s Note-sized bundle of wisdom for you.

From my sessions listening to overachievers like Tim Ferris, Sophia Amoruso and, of course, Oprah, it appears there are two things every insanely successful person does:

1. Meditate. I swear everyone in the podcast universe meditates. Leandra Medine of Man Repeller fame meditates! Ariana Huffington! Athletes! People who have degrees in happiness! OPRAH!

You know why? Studies from Harvard have proven that eight weeks of consistent meditation increases cortical thickness in the part of your brain that looks after learning and memory; and decreases cell volume in the part that governs fear, anxiety and stress.

2. Practice gratitude. Studies show it helps you sleep better, be more resilient and foster relationships. It also legit makes you happier, which makes sense, because it reminds of you of all the amazing things you have.

It seems a bit weird that after hours upon hours of listening to podcasts, I've walked away with just two lessons – but hey, I had to leave a few lessons for you to find in the rest of the magazine, right? Like Hung Vanngo’s secrets to flawless makeup on p51; some lessons from people in love triangles on p52; and how to use body language to nail a date on p102 for starters…
