Edi†or LETTER FROM THE
Welcome to the fifth edition of COMO’s annual magazine. For 2017, our focus is on the wilder lures of the worlds COMO inhabits, whether it’s riding a wave on southwest Bali at the new COMO Echo Beach, or taking a roadtrip through the Margaret River wine region in Australia. Olivia Lee travels with photographer Michael Turek to snag the exclusive on new helicopter safaris that have just launched at COMO Uma Bhutan, while Sam Fry gets to see another side of the Caribbean, exploring the mangrove swamps, deep-sea diving and rugged hinterland of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Sometimes the exotic lies right under our noses. In this issue, we encourage you to stay in Mayfair, but to dig deep and enjoy an ‘alternative London’, from a fashion store with a buzzer and appointment system, to a tour of the street art highlights of Camden. In Miami, the wild is less a physical adventure than a matter of expression – of contemporary artists, architects and gallerists who are giving this city its dynamic reputation.
The point is this: COMO doesn’t do cookie-cutter. Wherever there are COMO hotels and resorts in the world, from the Himalayas to the southern Maldives, the company takes the challenge of that location and opens it up to guests who share the inquisitive spirit.
British photographer Martin Morrell is a long-term collaborator of COMO Hotels and Resorts. His award-winning photography encompasses fashion, interiors and showbusiness, with work regularly appearing in publications from Vogue to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times T Magazine. He also directs commercials.
