COMO Stories

LETTER FROM THE editor

- Sophy Roberts

This is our sixth edition of COMO Stories – a magazine that takes life at a slightly slower pace to the digital everyday. In print, we can indulge in stories that last a little longer than a quick Instagram hit, lingering in pages full of beauty, and writing that transports us somewhere else. We can enjoy the feeling of getting lost for a while in another world, which is the same feeling you get when you travel to somewhere new and unexpected, whether that is the remote Thaa Atoll in the Maldives, or the Himalayas. That’s important to the COMO family, and always has been – the commitment the company makes to doing things properly so you can experience a shift in your wellbeing while also feeling transformed by experiences that take you under the skin of a destination. Only then is the power of transformation truly felt, whether it’s taking time out to be alone on a bespoke retreat at COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali (page 84), or experiencing Perth’s culinary might from the perspective of its indigenous traditions (page 12). This issue is dedicated to that theme of transformation, and the dynamism that comes from progress and change. As a growing company, COMO Hotels and Resorts subjects itself to that flux constantly, with investment in exciting new properties – COMO Uma Canggu in Bali is the major resort opening of the year – and a constant enrichment of experiences at COMO’s existing hotels and resorts. In a rapidly changing world, we are having to work harder, move quicker, juggle family and friends like never before. But we can also sometimes just sit back and enjoy the change that comes naturally, to experience destinations a little differently from our expectations, to live, laugh and love.
