Pod Bali Choklat began in 2010 based on co-founder Toby Garritt’s belief that chocolate should be made in the same area where the cocoa beans are grown. Pod has expanded from a boutique, couverture chocolate producer into a larger-scale artisan factory with state-of-the-art European machinery capable of producing over 500kg of chocolate a day. The purveyor’s commitment to sustainable high-quality ingredients and working with Balinese local cacao farmers remains steadfast. Their beanto-bar approach ensures quality and consistency in every batch of chocolate, thanks to a combination of traditional techniques with modern technology.
Pod Bali Choklat crafts two styles of chocolate, Classic and Nectar. While the Classic range is made in the European tradition of couverture chocolate, Nectar uses organic nectar from the lontar tree as a nutritious and healthier alternative to refined sugar. With more than 20 varieties of chocolate bars, a visit to Pod Bali Choklat is a must-do for chocophiles. A short tour circling the industrious factory will show how Pod produces their chocolate bars. Visitors are also welcome to sample all of the chocolates on display, enjoy on a rich hot or ice chocolate, and have a bite of warm freshly baked pain au chocolat in the adjoining café.
If that’s not enough, a Fresh Chocolate Making experience is also available. With four chocolates and 12 ingredients to choose from such as almonds, coconut and rosella flowers, happy visitors can bring home their own individually crafted chocolate bar in a beautiful gift box.
In addition to their main factory which is on the road to Bedugul, you can also visit Pod Origin, the first factory located at the Bali Elephant Camp, and Pod Sunset, a chocolate shop and café located in Kuta. Pod Bali Choklat also produces a line of customisable products for Bali’s premier hotels & resorts.
