While others typically offer gift boxes that double up as jewellery cases or lanterns, Crystal Jade’s collaboration with Disney’s Mickey and Friends goes a step further and comes in the form of a limited edition Disney musical carousel mooncake tin ($88 including eight mooncakes).
Plug the stunning rose gold tin to an attached USB cable and the whole device immediately lights up from within. As the carnival-like tune of Mickey Mouse March plays in the background, you can admire specially-commissioned drawings of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Disney and Goofy on a carousel ride. What’s more, housed inside the carousel tin is a two-tier dessert tray; present the mooncakes on the elegant vessel for afternoon tea, or use it as a table centrepiece thereafter.
Housed within Disney's musical carousel mooncake box are eight mooncakes in two flavours ($88/four of each flavour). The Chocolate Manuka Honey snow skin encases a white chocolate centre and a smooth and not-too-sweet chocolate paste, which is guaranteed to be a hit with kids and adults alike. Bite into the Pandan Lotus with gula Melaka mooncake to discover a jade green lotus paste enveloping a creamy gula Melaka filled white chocolate centre.
For purists, Crystal Jade’s traditional mooncakes, which sport thin golden brown and moist pastry skin and a generous filling of low sugar premium natural white lotus, will not disappoint. They come in a choice of melon seeds ($58 for four), single yolk ($62 for four) and double yolk ($68 for four). Another variety is the Mixed Nuts and Chicken Ham ($68 for four), which is chock-full of orange peel, sesame seeds, almonds and chicken ham. All traditional mooncakes are housed in classy turquoise boxes with a gem stone-inspired design.
