Executive chef Alvin Leong of Baba Chews Bar and Eatery ups the ante for National Day with a delectable seafood feast that showcases oceanic gems with local flavours. For the month of August, the restaurant has launched a special menu with highlights such as Sri Lankan Crab in salted egg yolk ($8/100g); brightly-hued Herbal Drunken Tiger Prawns boiled in Leong’s signature Chinese herbal broth ($25/300g); whole Nonya-style Baked Australian Lobster with Nonya sabayon ($48/450g); and our favourite, the creamy Soon Hock Claypot Laksa featuring poached marble goby with Korean wheat noodles ($52/600g).

Other must-tries at the cosy 90-seater restaurant include the Rempah Red Sea Prawns stir-fried in a fiery coconut cream ($32/300g); and Baba Chews’ modern Peranakan signature of Snow Crab Bakwan Kepiting, where the heritage soup is brimming with Korean snow crab stock, crabmeat and pork meatballs ($15). #01-01, Katong Square, 86 East Coast Road.
