The best of the classics
Go on a culinary adventure through Singapore’s many delights at Chatterbox.
At 47 years old, Chatterbox remains a perennial favourite and one can see why. Home to the legendary Mandarin Chicken Rice, its extensive menu also includes lavish takes on other hawker dishes, such as the Chatterbox Lobster Laksa and King Prawn Fried Hokkien Noodles. An unparalleled view of Orchard Road, thanks to its lofty location on the fifth floor of Mandarin Orchard Singapore, is another bonus.
The pièce de résistance is, of course, the Mandarin Chicken Rice. Succulent slivers of poached chicken, fragrant rice and a punchy chilli sauce all come together in a beautiful ensemble. Executive sous chef Liew Tian Heong (who previously cut his teeth at Mandarin Orchard’s Pine Court and Mandarin Court) not only retains the authenticity of the decades-old recipe but also personally guides his kitchen through each laborious step to ensure its quality.
The same goes for the other local favourites; which are given an upgrade with luxurious ingredients – think red snapper or abalone. Liew offers an all-rounded representation of Singapore’s culinary heritage in one menu. Expect Kurobuta Pork Chop Rice and Salted Egg Chicken Wings alongside desserts like Cheng Tng and Yin Yang (chilled soya bean milk with grass jelly).
As a testament to Chatterbox’s popularity, the restaurant earned its spot in the Hall of Fame of the Heritage Brand distinction at the Singapore Prestige Brand Award in 2016. When it comes to adding an elegant spin to hawker classics, you cannot go wrong with Chatterbox.
