When Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Rogers adapted the Jean Prouvé 6×6 Demountable House, 1944 in collaboration with gallerist Patrick Seguin in 2015, they only had plans to exhibit it, but, from this month onward, it will be open to guests for €2,000 a night. Originally purposed as an emergency housing for World War II victims in Lorraine (which Jean Prouvé won the Ministry’s Gold Medal in 1947 for), Rogers has carefully recreated it as a modish, chic accommodation in Villa La Coste, a boutique hotel within Château La Coste vineyard. Accompanying the stay is an exhibition of works from the likes of Ai Wei Wei and Louise Bourgeois on the vineyard grounds. Tel: +33 4 42 50 50 00 French executive pastry chef of Grand Hyatt Taipei, Julien Perrinet has created The Palette (NTD880/S$39), an eye-catching confection filled with layers of coffee mousse, mandarin orange cream, marmalade and a crisp hazelnut dacquoise. The cake is topped with an edible colour palette and paintbrush to mimic the palette that his father, an avid artist, would use to create the watercolour paintings that populated his family home. Creative director Sara Prentice, herself a breast cancer survivor, took inspiration from Queen Mary’s diamond and dot design in the iconic Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara – commissioned for her wedding circa 1893.
