Siren call


Over in down­town De­troit sits The Siren Ho­tel, a stun­ning bou­tique ho­tel packed with seven F&B es­tab­lish­ments. Ear­lier this year, it opened cock­tail lounge Candy Bar by chef Kate Wil­liams (pas­try chef of Lady of the House) and the ho­tel’s in-house cof­fee roaster and bar, Pop­u­lace Cof­fee. Last month saw the ad­di­tion of Gar­ret Li­par’s Al­bena, an eight-seater tast­ing menu-only restau­rant (from Us$130/s$178/per­son). Within is an open kitchen where din­ers can watch on as Li­par pre­sents the sea­son’s best from the Great Lakes re­gion. Next up will be an­other of Wil­liams’. Karl’s, an all-day restau­rant that seats up to 85, will fo­cus on Amer­i­can clas­sics. It will dou­ble up as the prop­erty’s in-house bak­ery, sup­ply­ing fresh bakes to Pop­u­lace Cof­fee. There will also be a rooftop bar, The Roof; a glitzy pi­ano karaoke bar, Sid Gold’s Re­quest Room; and a mys­te­ri­ous new project in col­lab­o­ra­tion with record shop, Paramita Sound. 1509 Broad­way St, De­troit, MI 48226, U.S.A.
