MICHAEL WRIGLEY , head of sales, Asia Hansard International

Share with us your career thus far.

I was previously sales director responsible for IFA distribution in Singapore at Standard Life International. Prior to that I worked at Zurich Life Singapore as head of expatriate sales before leaving in 2013 to join Standard Life. I bring with me 18 years of experience in the life insurance industry. I’ve been brought in to expand Asia Hansard International’s IFA business through my existing networks, increase focus on our product proposition and ensure high quality service delivery to our partners.

Tell us about a recent meal you had overseas that bowled you over.

I recently ate at a wonderful Vietnamese fusion restaurant in Hong Kong called Chôm Chôm. It has a lively bar and kitchen and is situated on a street corner in Soho. The menu is inspired by Vietnamese street food and you can’t make a reservation, so you just have to show up and hope for a spot. The queues sometimes go around the street corner as the food is just delicious!

What’s your idea of a perfect foodie holiday?

I love Mediterranean food so I’m looking forward to going to Greece this summer with my family and indulging in fresh produce and seafood from the Aegean Sea. We plan to spend some time in Athens and also on the island of Mykonos and I can’t wait to have the traditional Greek fish baked in thyme salt crust and served with freshly roasted vegetables.

What’s an under-rated local eatery that you love going to?

My wife and I enjoy authentic French cuisine at Bistro du Vin in Shaw Centre. It’s in our neighbourhood, offers great wines and a festive and warm atmosphere.
