The 2020 Penfolds releases showed consistency and class, but since the Grange 2016 is a couple decades away from showing its best, it falls to ‘baby Grange’ to whet the palate. The 2018 release marks the 60th anniversary since Bin 389 was made in 1960, earning its reputation by being aged in ex-american oak barrels that previously held Grange. The regional blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Shiraz shows balanced black fruit character, with grippy tannins and spicy oak adding to the juiciness and meaty profile.
