Pos­si­bly the most es­teemed watch­maker of all time, AL Breguet didn’t just in­vent a whole lot of stuff; he de­fined the horo­log­i­cal zeit­geist. He made his watches with thin straight hands marked by a ring near the tip that are nearly al­ways flame-blued. So ar­che­typal of lux­ury watch­mak­ing are these Breguet-style hands (also called pomme hands) that over the years other firms have come to use them as well.
