What are some positives you can reflect on about life in Singapore in the pandemic, or things you’ve learnt?

Singapore is really cautious and our rules seem really harsh to the rest of the world, but I am glad we are here. We have it good in Singapore. Vaccination has been rolled out properly, people are following the rules and we’ve never had to face massive outbreaks.

Alicia

The need to stay mentally and physically active is key for general happiness. Working all day isn’t everything.

Nathan

We’ve been here only two months, but I’m appreciating the slower pace and better work-life balance, which did not exist in Hong Kong for my husband.

Komal

MY SENSE IS THAT COVID-19 HAS FORCED A RESET FOR MANY PEOPLE, MYSELF INCLUDED. IT HAS MADE ME RE-EVALUATE A NUMBER OF THINGS IN MY LIFE. I’VE SPENT THE BEST PART OF THE LAST DECADE BUILDING A BUSINESS

THAT HAS REQUIRED A DEMANDING TRAVEL SCHEDULE AT TIMES.

Tim

I have learnt that although Singapore has been very restrictive with regard to travel, I would rather be here than in my home country South Africa.

Jessica

Although it’s difficult to be far away from family, we try to focus on the positives: more working from home, less business travel, more quality time and less pollution.

Irmelin

What are some ways you have coped with the past 18 months as far as a lack of travel goes?

We did this in Hong Kong and we are doing it here as well. We pick a new neighbourhood every weekend and just walk around it. We’ve discovered so many hidden gems like local eateries, Instagram-worthy spots and cool shops this way and it makes you feel like a tourist. Also, staycations and spa days are a big help!

Komal

We realised like most expats that after living 10 years in Singapore we had never spent more than three consecutive months here without travelling! It’s a big change. Instead of focusing on the negative, we visited different places on the island and felt like tourists! Keep exploring new spots and you won’t get too bored. We also did a lot of workshops, which were fun!

Alicia

I USED THE CYCLING PATHS EVERY DAY AND VISITED SENTOSA.

Nathan

We’ve tried to cope as best as possible. It’s been tough not to go crazy, but everyone is in the same boat so you learn to do your best in a situation like this.
