Tell us a little about your background.

I have more than 16 years’ experience as a school principal in Australia. Most recently, I was Headmaster of Oxford Falls Grammar School on Sydney’s northern beaches; prior to that, I was Principal of Macquarie Anglican Grammar School in Western New South Wales. I have a degree in Science Education and also completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. Over the years, I’ve been involved in the wider education fraternity and sat on the Boards of the Charles Sturt University Education faculty and two trade Training Colleges; I’ve also been a Higher School Certificate Examiner and a representative on the NSW Board of Studies Teaching and Educational Standards panel.

What subjects do you teach?

Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Science at both Senior and Junior School level.

Aside from the physical space, what do you think makes a great school?

Good schools have good facilities. However, what makes a great school is what is at its heart. Great schools have outstanding teachers who really care about the students and who go above and beyond in providing a high-quality education for them. Great schools have a safe and caring environment where each person is valued, with a real sense of belonging within a vibrant community. Great schools foster a lifelong love of learning and, through the staff modelling the values they profess, great schools prepare their students for a life of leadership and service beyond their formal education at school.

You’ve been in Singapore a few months now; what are your initial impressions of the city?

It’s an exciting and vibrant place to live; I’m really enjoying the culture, the people and the wonderful lifestyle that Singapore allows me to have. I love the fact that there is a melting pot of different people from different backgrounds, all with something special to add to its culture. I hope that in my time here I’m able to have an impact as an educational leader in developing the next generation of young leaders.

Tell us about your family.

My wife Julie and I have four daughters, and a newly born grandson.

What are your passions?

I get no greater delight than seeing my students grow in character, being challenged in their thinking, enjoying their learning, and participating as responsible citizens in a vibrant school community.
