The Chosen One: It’s all about craft beer at this bar and, with a dozen on offer, you can enjoy wheat beers, IPAS, pale ales and stouts. For something different, try Palate Trip ($10) brewed by 8 Wired Brewing. Made from a combination of American and New Zealand hops, it’s been deliberately soured to add a tart flavour to the sweet malt. The Cheapskate: Considering what you can pay for a craft beer in Singapore, 3rd Culture manages to keep its prices low. For example, you can enjoy the German-inspired wheat beer Hefeweizen, brewed by Australia’s Hargreaves Hill, for just $8. Bite on this: 3rd Culture doesn’t serve food – there’s simply no room with the impressive refrigeration system that keeps your beer cold. But you’re in Maxwell, with the chicken rice made famous by Anthony Bourdain served just opposite, so you’ll easily find something to eat. Last but not least: You know what it’s like at your favourite hawker centre – there are plenty of delicious food options but not much when it comes to alcohol.
