Who says Singapore has no fashion sense? We took our camera to the streets to snap ladies who exude individuality and an awesome personal style.

I’m from Nashville, Tennessee in the US and moved to Singapore with my boyfriend (now husband!) and cat in September 2013, so we’ve been here for four years now.

Her style...

I go for casual elegance with a focus on muted colours, body-con shapes and imaginative jewellery, but like to mix it up and add some rock chic flair! As a member of the AWA, I get to attend a plethora of different events throughout the year, ranging from casual to dressier events like the annual AWA Fashion Show. For that reason, it’s important for me to have variety in my wardrobe.

Her favourite shops...

I love TANGS, because they have an excellent curation of brands and support local labels like Aijek, In Good Company, Stones that Rock and Desti Saint.

I often find classic yet affordable clothing at Robinsons The Heeren from brands like Reiss, Yacht 21 and Lavish Alice.

Whether I’m looking for a bathing suit, a cocktail dress, casual separates or a formal evening gown, Willow & Huxley always has me covered, and it’s nice that they offer complimentary alterations.

I like White Ginger for chic resort wear essentials.

Cluny Court has a lively vibe and a variety of stores. It’s ideal for gifts, and I like shopping at The Tui Collection for stunning leather sandals, or Groovy Gifts for affordable coloured python clutches. If I’m looking for something exotic and eye-catching, then Simone Irani is a must.

Finally, BCBG is a longstanding favourite of mine for a gorgeous gown that will make a splash but that doesn’t cost the earth.

Her top style tip...

My mum introduced me to Carole Jackson’s book Color Me Beautiful. It’s all about how to choose the colours that suit you best, which I think is just as important as the cut or fit of your clothing.

Her wardrobe must-have...

A well-fitting pair of skinny jeans! Yes, even this close to the equator, I can’t live without my jeans.

Something interesting…

I’m a scientist by training, but have an artsy side and really enjoy crafting. I like to create unique decorations from scratch for loved ones, like ornate ribbon banners or chandeliers. They look beautiful as party décor and can be reused, or even displayed year-round.

Her guilty pleasures...

Oh, I have so many – where do I start? Pasta and wine are probably my two biggest vices; another is ordering Ben’s Cookies from UBEREATS!

Her favourite place abroad for shopping ...

A huge, semi-open-air market in Ubud, Bali called the Ubud Traditional Art Market. It’s become more touristy over the last few years, but it’s still a firm favourite. There’s a vendor who makes children’s clothing from hand-dyed silk, and another who sells gorgeous snakeskin wrap sandals. It’s not just the goods that make this place special and extra-fun, though – it’s interacting with friendly local vendors and doing a bit of light-hearted haggling.
