EL FOR ALL

-

Prior to our arrival in Singapore in 2015, I had access to your magazine and found it very helpful, especially when searching neighbourhoods for a place to live. However, many of your articles seem to be for people with a limitless income, which many of your readers do not have.

I’m sure your readers would appreciate some reviews of travel destinations with a budget in mind. Or how about affordable fashion suggestions for a European/american-shaped body? I have spent weeks looking for a swimsuit that comes in a size bigger than 38, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Can you please try to include articles that could be helpful to a broader range of readers?

Thank you for your feedback, which makes some valid points. Ever since we started, 15 years ago, we’ve been very aware of our mix of readers, and we have always made an effort to balance our content and make it inclusive. Even back then, many of us were not on “expat packages” – including the EL team – and so we frequently publish articles on budgetconscious travel, shopping and entertainment, both online and in print. Our new Travel Guide has several readers’ recommendations, and we include these and pointers on free things to do in our City Guide and Kids’ Guide too. We also make a point of sourcing and featuring clothing in bigger sizes. As with many other lifestyle magazines, some of the homes and travel experiences featured are aspirational. Apart from those readers who can afford them, we believe that many other readers enjoy looking at them, too.
