On the Road

Singapore has great public transport but nothing beats a car for getting around, particularly with children. We asked one Expat Living reader about his current leasing arrangements.

- Name: Ewan Role: Regional Travel Manager

What type of car are you leasing?

I used to drive a sedan, but I needed a vehicle with large boot space and the capacity to ferry my family around. A spacious SUV meets these needs. So, I decided to get a new Kia Sportage through Avis.

The Sportage is unique – you hardly see this vehicle on the roads. The change from a sedan to an SUV was something new and different for me; it was exciting to learn how to handle my new car. I regularly drive it to Malaysia for work or holidays. On those long journeys, it’s stable, spacious and comfortable, and it has features that keep me entertained.

What were the advantages for you in leasing?

Instead of the large down payment required with buying, I only needed to make a deposit of one to two months. Avis offers quality service, convenience and newer vehicles, and the price was competitive. Also, being able to get a brand new vehicle of the highest quality gave me complete peace of mind; it meant that I didn’t have to worry about downtime for additional maintenance or servicing.

How have you found the service?

I had a good experience working with my Avis account manager; he was flexible and gave me helpful tips, running me through the benefits and disadvantages of the various car makes and models based on my needs. This was valuable advice. I’ve also driven with Avis in the US and New Zealand, and the process is always seamless.
