Integrated International School

-

A family’s perspective Parent: Wernmei Yong Ade Child: Joseph (7)

Joseph was diagnosed with moderate Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder in 2017. He had been having difficulty adjusting to his elementary school, experiencing anxiety and throwing tantrums. A friend suggested IIS and we met with the Dean of Students and Principal. We were initially worried they would not take him because of his behavioural history. However, they assured us they were well-equipped to manage it.

He started with IIS in August 2017 and we haven’t looked back since! We’ve seen so many positive changes. The school gave him tools to help with self-regulation; his anxiety levels have decreased significantly, which has aided his academic learning. The school stays in close contact with us and is prompt to communicate any incidents. We get weekly updates on Joseph’s behaviour and academic progress. The loving and non-judgemental environment has helped our son develop better self-esteem and socialisation skills.

A WORD FROM THE SCHOOL

IIS supports students through an integrated and inclusive educational approach (rather than “one size fits all”), with a focus on academic achievement and well-rounded character development. The international programme is based on the foundations of the Australian curriculum, with students sitting NAPLAN assessments as advised by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Besides academic success, IIS believes in enhancing individual talents while fostering socially conscientious and tolerant human beings.

WHAT’S NEW?

IIS recently launched two Early Years experiences as part of its IIS Foundations initiative: a parent- accompanied playgroup, Tea & Tots ( 8 months to 18 months), and a Reggio Emilia-inspired toddler drop- off programme, Little Tykes (1.5 to 3.5 years).
