PRIVATE OR PUBLIC?

- – Sophie

Find out about first- hand experiences our panel members have had with Singapore’s hospitals and its health system in general.

Private; Gleneagles is our nearest. I gave birth at NUH, which was also ace. You are in safe hands in Singapore! – Alexandra

The medical services in Singapore are probably among the very best, but they come with a price tag. Hence, good insurance cover is of paramount importance. We usually go to a private hospital like Raffles or Gleneagles because of the proximity to our home. – Ankita

Healthcare in Singapore is world-class. As we have insurance, we would normally go to a private hospital; for the kids, I would go to Mount Elizabeth as waiting times are normally very reasonable. We have also used Raffles Hospital for A&E and specialist treatment. – Beth

Private. Mount Elizabeth Novena is within walking distance of my condo and is such a nice, efficient, clean facility that houses some of the best specialists and physicians on the island. My first call in any medical emergency would always be Dr Steven Tucker; he has Western-style education and training but has been in Singapore for many years so he offers the expat the best of both worlds. – Dana

For hospitals, we go to Gleneagles or Mount Elizabeth, both of which are private. We have found that the healthcare in Singapore is very thorough. – Linda

Generally public, including to KK Women & Children’s Hospital once when our son came out in hives; otherwise, to a local doctor – not sure if this is public or private; I just know you pay for the consultation and then are billed for any medication and so on. – Lisa

KK for kids, and Mount Elizabeth Novena for A&E.
