Expat Living (Singapore)

- Neighbourhood: Pasir Panjang

I live in an older condo in Pasir Panjang, near South Buona Vista Road. Reasons for living here: I like the proximity to lots of parks (Kent Ridge, Labrador and West Coast Park are all within walking distance), which is great for us as we’re an active family plus dog.

Public transport: There are three MRT stations on the Circle Line – Haw Par Villa, Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge – that are all a walk or a short bus ride away from home. The buses on Pasir Panjang Road serve lots of hotspots on the island. One route takes you into the Marina Bay Financial District in 15 to 20 minutes, plus there are buses into Orchard, Alexandra (IKEA!) and other popular districts.

Best green space:

As I mentioned above, there’s no lack of green in this area!

Local amenities: It’s a bus ride to West Coast Plaza, which has a Cold Storage and a great wet market opposite every Saturday and Sunday. Alexandra Retail Centre on Pasir Panjang Road has a Fairprice, as does Kent Ridge station. There are plenty of little independent mini marts dotted about too for essentials. Dentists, doctors and pet groomers are also close by. Vivocity is obviously ideal for retail therapy and has a great cinema. It’s close to Sentosa gateway too, which you can reach via Vivocity or by cab, for beach lovers.

Local recommendations:

My favourite brunch spots are On The Table and Paddy Hills. For drinks, I like heading to Timbre at Gillman Barracks, or hopping on a bus or cab into Telok Ayer, which takes ten minutes.
