Expat Living (Singapore)

- Havelock Road

Our condo is on Havelock Road, right on the border of Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay. We’ve lived in the area for three years now, and love it!

Reasons for living here: Having previously lived on Stevens Road (the Bukit Timah Road end), where there were no restaurants within walking distance, we wanted to move somewhere with lots of dining options just outside our door. Now, we are in close proximity to all the quays, with so many great eateries along the river, and Chinatown and Tiong Bahru both short walks away – we couldn’t have asked for a better location to suit our needs.

Public transport:

It’s a 10-to-15-minute walk to the Clarke Quay MRT so I usually just take the bus, which stops right in front of my condo; or, I can walk to UE Square for other bus routes. The super-close Fort Canning MRT opens in October – I can’t wait!

Best green space:

Fort Canning is just a few minutes’ walk away.

Local amenities:

We’re five minutes from Liang Court, as well as UE Square Shopping Mall, where there’s a Cold Storage, a Starbucks and my son’s preschool. There are tons of kid-friendly coffee shops and cafés along the river, as well as a manipedi spot; it’s also super easy to pick up some wine at Wine Connection just across the bridge at Robertson Walk. Great World City is a good 15-to-20-minute walk away, but worth it for the massive Cold Storage there.

Local recommendations:

Mondo Mio for Italian food, Verre for a great, riverside happy hour, Natureland for a full-body massage.
