TECH TROUBLESHOOTING!

My personal photos are in such a mess, I don’t even know where to start. Can you give me some tips on sorting them out?

The only way to organise and protect your photo collection is to develop a good photo management routine. Here are our two key tips: So, that’s it; if you follow these basic photo management tips, you’ll have peace of mind that the photos of your precious memories will be organised and protected.

Create a centralised photo hub.

Store your photos in one location, such as on your main computer. You will need to ensure your computer has sufficient storage – we recommend a minimum 1TB hard drive, but ideally 2TB. If you’re running out of space, it can be possible for us to upgrade your hard drive to increase storage.

Regularly consolidate all your photos from your phone, camera and tablets, and download them to your photo hub. The initial consolidation process can be tricky and time-consuming, and will often result in hundreds of duplicate photos. We help many people with this process, and run specialised software to remove copies so they have an organised and consolidated library moving forward.

Back up, back up, and back up again!

Back up your files regularly (this means having at least two copies of your data). The more copies you have stored in different locations, the more you minimise the risk of losing precious photos. You can back up to external hard drives as well as the icloud; we recommend doing a combination of both for a very robust backup. If you need assistance, give Tekkie Help a call on 8113 8682.
