Great spots to take your guests

First, take a slow wander through this former army barracks to soak up a little of its rich history. Then, when you’ve worked up an appetite, hit up one of the many local or international restaurants housed amid the lush greenery, and tuck in.

Taste of tradition

For a hearty, traditional Indian meal, head to Samy’s Curry. Here you’ll find a variety of South Indian fare such as their signature chicken masala and Mysore mutton, with dishes served up on a banana leaf. Located in one of the old barrack buildings, Samy’s has an old- school, canteen- like feel about it. The relaxed atmosphere and solid food is clearly a winning combination – this family-run restaurant has been serving hordes of hungry expats and locals since the 1970s.

Crab-tastic

Got a seafood lover in tow? Don’t miss the black pepper crab at Long Beach Seafood. Created in 1982, this fragrant pepper sauce dish is a Singapore classic. An award-winning resto, Long Beach has been around since 1946, and with good reason. You’ll find all kinds of delicious ocean-dwelling creatures on the menu – the steamed razor clams are another firm favourite.

Alternatively, head to Dempsey’s other popular seafood joint, Jumbo Seafood to tuck into another iconic Singapore dish: chilli crab. This sweet and savoury crab dish is served up with golden mantou, a crispy traditional Chinese bun. Other popular dishes include the golden salted egg prawn, mee goreng and crispy fried baby squid.

For the foodie

Step things up a notch at award-winning restaurant Morsels where chef-owner Petrina Loh serves up creative fusion cuisine in a rustic setting. Impress your guests and enjoy the best the kitchen has to offer with sharing or omakase menus. Paired with specially curated sake, craft beers or house-infused cocktails, it’s sure to wow your foodie pals.

Fun night out

For an entertaining night out, head to Tawandang Microbrewery, a German-thai microbrewery originating from Bangkok. Expect modern Thai food paired with smooth German beer and regular live music and dance performances. Your tastebuds will be well looked after by the Thai chefs and experienced German brewmaster, as you choose from Thai and German classics like tom yum kung and deep-fried pork knuckles, washed down with draft dunkel, weisen and lager beers.
