Top picks for Mid-autumn Festival

The official snack for the MidAutumn Festival (13 September this year) is the mooncake; a sweet pastry shared between friends and family during a gathering. While mooncakes are traditionally baked with lotus seed or sweet bean paste, many shops have given their creative spin by launching unique flavours. Here are our top picks!

THE CAPITOL KEMPINSKI HOTEL

The first-ever range of mooncakes crafted by Michelin-starred Chef Alvin Leung features a mix of classic and bold flavours. The Mini Theatre Combo ($68) is inspired by the colours and sights of the Capitol Theatre, and includes eight mini mooncakes in two locally- inspired flavours: caramel mixed nuts and golden corn. Available until 13 September at the hotel and 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung Restaurant. 6715 6871 kempinski. com/ singapore

GOODWOOD PARK HOTEL

New snowskin creations here include kiwi dragonfruit manuka honey ($56) and the locally inspired mango with pomelo ($56). For a taste that’s closer to tradition, try the blue pea flower with white lotus seed paste and melon seeds ($66). Available until 13 September. 6730 1868 | mooncake@ goodwoodparkhotel.com festivepromotions.goodwoodparkhotel.com

PAN PACIFIC SINGAPORE

Pan Pacific’s Mao Shan Wang durian snow- skin mooncakes ($88.80) are back by popular demand, alongside new snowskin flavours like Gianduja and yuzu, as well as coconut and pineapple ($68.80). We love the mooncake box, which was designed by two gifted alumni artists from Pathlight School. One dollar from the sale of every mooncake box will be donated to the Autism Resource Centre. Available until 14 September. 9009 5936 | mooncake.ppsin@panpacific.com pacificmarketplace.com.sg

INTERCONTINENTAL SINGAPORE

Love tea? Check out the tea- inspired mooncake collection ($76) from Man Fu Yuan, which includes flavours like Irish whiskey cream infused with assam tea, mango and citrus fruits blended with sencha, and peppermint tea with chia seeds and lemon hibiscus truffle. GRAND HYATT SINGAPORE

Riding on the hype of the popular beverage is Grand Hyatt’s newest snowskin flavour, brown sugar milk tea truffle ($80). Two favourites from last year’s range also make a comeback: acai berry truffle, and black sesame and walnut truffle. Not a fan of mooncakes? The Mid-autumn chocolate pralines (from $22) are a great gift alternative. Available until 13 September. 6887 5492 | store.grandhyattsingapore.com
