Macbeth is coming to Singapore

- divaproductions.com.sg

Fresh off the back of three amazing seasons at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre, Macbeth will be showing in Singapore from 4 to 7 March. Directed and produced by Daniel Taylor, the production has been praised for its immersive rendition of William Shakespeare’s famous “Scottish Play”. Here’s what you can expect.

The story

After the civil war, Scottish general Macbeth encounters a group of witches who tell him that he will become the King of Scotland. Convinced by the prophecy and persuaded by his power-hungry wife, he does all it takes to attain the throne, embarking on a heartless mission of gruesome murder. The play explores major themes including the pitfalls of ambition, jealousy, betrayal and guilt.

The cast

Starring in the title role is Sean Jones, a common face in Shakespearean productions. He has even played other roles in Macbeth itself, including Macduff and Banquo while on a Japanese national tour. Interestingly, Sean’s wife Tracy SpencerJones takes on the role of Lady Macbeth for the Singapore production, and their 10-year-old daughter Elinor Grace plays Macbeth’s daughter. Talk about a family act!

The production is something of a reunion for Sean, director Daniel Taylor, and actor Warwick Evans, who plays the role of King Duncan. The three previously worked together on Willy Russell’s musical Blood Brothers – Sean played “Mickey” for almost 20 years in the West End and on tours, while Daniel played the role of Sammy, and Warwick was the narrator for the West End, Toronto, Sydney and Broadway shows.
