Blue House Nursery
& International Preschool
Heitaro attended the Infant & Toddler Atelier (in the same compound) for a few months and formally joined Blue House in October 2018. During our school tour, it had just stopped raining and we saw beaming faces and cries of joy from children playing in the muddy sandpit. The scene stirred our souls, reminding us of what childhood is all about. We also liked the school's philosophies; for instance, they don't have a uniform because they believe clothing is an important means of self-expression. All spaces in the school are also beautifully decorated and full of warmth, with a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere. We knew that Heitaro would have a happy childhood here.
We like that the school uses the Reggio Emilia approach. Daily activities are led by the interests and curiosity of the children, with the belief that they're capable and full of potential. Educators not only teach but also observe them and stimulate their curiosity by introducing relevant materials or asking questions. The school is surrounded by greenery, with bunnies and chickens on the premises and horseriding schools and a dog training centre in the neighbourhood. Children's daily exploration takes place in nature and with animals. They also play at the sandpit and playground every day and enjoy nature walks. Their school life is truly full of wonder, exploration and the joy of discovery. The first thing Heitaro says when we pick him up from school is “I had fun!” This is despite his separation anxiety and taking some time to settle in.
During this settling-in period, the teachers were sensitive to his needs and increased his time at school gradually. It worked and I'm grateful for their support. The school's students are independent and mature for their ages as they know that they're loved, cherished and respected.
