ALY KHAIRUDDIN, OWNER AND STOTT PILATES INSTRUCTOR

-

I love Pilates because, for starters, it’s hard to have a boring class with all the thousands of various exercises! And, yes – it really does develop a good understanding of your core.

I first started my Pilates journey as a client back in 2000, when I didn’t have a clue what it was! I’ll admit, back then, it was a hard concept to understand. But, over the months and even years, I developed a respect for this type of exercise and thought about taking it to a whole new level of mastery, and eventually turning it into a career. I’ve now been teaching Pilates for nearly 16 years.

When I recovered from my bilateral mastectomy in 2015, I couldn’t move my left arm and was in such pain. It was when I opened FitNut Loft and dedicated time every single day to rehabilitating myself, that I got rid of the pain, and my left arm returned to its full range of motion. I want the same for our clients – to live very long, pain-free lives without having to be dependent on anyone. In fact, one of my favourite things about teaching Pilates is when the client looks at me with huge eyes and declares, “Oh my gosh, I don’t feel the pain anymore!”

Aly’s top three reasons to practice Pilates

• Helps you feel younger and stronger again as you age

• Gives you energy and strength to play with your kids

• Plays a major role in supporting female health; this includes repairing diastasis recti (abdominal separation) after childbirth and avoiding incontinence
