THE TREATMENT: COLD THERAPY FACIAL (CRYOTHERAPY)

THE PLACE: EVOKE BEAUTY

THE EXPERIENCE:

Up the stairs of one of the classic Duxton shophouses is a lovely light and Scandi-style salon split into two areas: facials and nails.

Cryotherapy (or cold therapy) involves exposing your face or any part of your body to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes. It stimulates the system and gets the blood flowing, which in turn helps the body heal itself.

Cryotherapy activates collagen production, heals broken capillaries, and helps to reduce pigmentation marks, dry skin and spots. For other areas of the body, it can reduce skin inflammations, alleviate muscle and joint pain, and even treat migraines. I’m a big fan of using cold therapy as a healing tool, so I was very excited to hear that this was now available in Singapore.

The facial cleanse and massage by Tanya was lovely. It was very relaxing and all the natural skincare products she used on me smelled really good. These are all pure, natural products tested and produced in Scandinavia. Formulated with no harmful chemicals, they’re also vegan, cruelty-free and paraben-free. You can find the products at thenordicglow.com.

After this, the cold mask was placed on my face. There’s no real discomfort, until an area on the top of my forehead got “brain freeze”. Tanya was quick to remove it once it happened, but it was just the kick-start I needed. She then used another nozzle to blow the cold air on my neck and décolletage, which is much worse than my face as far as wrinkles go. That felt fairly pleasant, with no discomfort.

Now, a couple of days after the treatment, a dry patch on my cheek is looking a lot better – as is my neck and chest. My skin also seems softer. There are several options available. The cryotherapy part of the facial is quick and inexpensive – it takes only 15 minutes and costs just $45. I’m going to try and go on a regular basis. I reckon in a few years I can look 21 again!
