Staying Safe & Sound

How to keep mozzies and airborne bacteria at bay with Rentokil Initial.

-

As we adapt to living in a pandemic, we’re doing all we can to stay safe at home and at the workplace. Along with COVID-19 precautions, this can include everything from getting rid of harmful bacteria in the air to Singapore’s ongoing issue of dengue.

To help us tackle these, we check out a couple of useful products from Rentokil Initial Singapore, winner of the “Best Pest Control” category in our recent Readers’ Choice Awards 2021.

Keeping the air safe and virus-free (including the coronavirus)

The quality of air we breathe can greatly affect our physical and mental wellbeing. Pathogens and bacteria aren’t just spread by contact between people and surfaces; they can also be spread through the air. This is particularly concerning in shared public spaces such as offices, where many people can be close together in an enclosed environment for long periods of time.

Needless to say, these places can become breeding grounds for germs. It’s worth going beyond just opening doors and windows for ventilation, and instead investing in professional air sterilisation to minimise the risks. Air decontamination technology can give you greater peace of mind around your indoor air safety.

The new Initial Viruskiller Air Purifier not only enhances air quality but also prevents the airborne transmission of infectious illnesses – perfect for a time like this. Using engineered infection control, the device takes control of airflow in a space, filtering and sterilising it before circulating it back. It’s said to eliminate 99.9999 percent of viruses in the air after a single pass through the filters, thanks to the use of short-wave ultraviolet light. Unlike regular air purifiers, it has a triple filter system for greater effectiveness, including carbon filters that remove large contaminants and a HEPA 13 filter that removes small air particles as tiny as 0.3 microns. There’s also a UVC chamber to capture remaining pathogens.

The air purifier can be used at different settings that suit your needs and preferences, from commercial spaces such as offices and clinics, to your own home. You can choose either a wall-mounted or floor-standing unit, too. For instance, the Hextio model (coverage of 20 square metres) is ideal for homes and can be conveniently placed on a tabletop. For larger spaces, opt for the wall-mounted VK 401 (60 square metres) or the floor-standing VK 102 (165 square metres).

Getting rid of mozzies

Dengue has always been a problem in Singapore; our warm tropical climate causes mosquitoes to thrive. Yet it seems that not everyone is aware of the dangers. According to a survey carried out last year by Nexus Link, as many as 54 percent of people weren’t aware they were staying in a dengue cluster.

Rentokil Initial has an outdoor mosquito trap that can help prevent mosquitoes from breeding in our homes and workplaces. The In2Care Mosquito Trap attracts the mosquitoes to lay eggs within the trap, contaminating them with larvicide. After that, they carry the larvicide to other breeding spots, killing eggs before they develop.

The trap not only works on its own (with help from the mosquitoes, of course!); it also reduces breeding and therefore the spread of dengue; and it works beyond your place to benefit others, too. The larvicide also affects the infected mosquito’s ability to bite, killing it within seven to 14 days. It targets mosquitoes at all life stages, from larvae to adults. The ingredients used in the trap are environmentally-friendly and sustainable, with low toxicity. Plus, the product is effective for mosquitoes that are insecticide-resistant.

Best of all, everything is contactless and you won’t need to schedule frequent visits from your pest control expert.
