Popular local artisanal bakery and café Baker & Cook has rolled out an all-new plant-based menu, exclusivel­y available at its Dempsey outlet. Highlights include the Pizza 10 (from $13) with “meatballs” handmade using Impossible mince, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, Spanish onions and rocket, and the Impossible Mushroom Swiss burger (from $22), a hearty and filling dish featuring house-made eggless quinoa buns. Wash it all down with a bottle of vegan wine; the fruity Weemala Sauvignon Blanc ($56) is a crowd favourite. New on Boon Tat Street is Fat Belly Social Steakhouse (FBSS), a modern communal steakhouse with a carefully curated wine list comprising both Old and New World wines. The 60-seater is helmed by Head Chef Victor Loy, who dishes out a combinatio­n of new creations and classic Fat Belly favourites. Start off with the grilled octopus ($40) with tripe and chorizo stew, and the rich uni, lardo and caviar on beef fat-glazed sourdough toast ($36). For mains, the largeforma­t meats are great for sharing amongst groups of three to four. A new addition is the Zabuton ($210), a well-marbled alternativ­e cut that’s flavourful, juicy and tender.
