A Cryotherapy Facial Reviewed!

-

Cryotherapy – or cold therapy – offers myriad benefits not just for your health and wellness, but also your skin. With consistent treatment, it can aid muscle ache and sore joints, along with common skin issues like pigmentation, acne, broken veins – even wrinkles! We sent our “old” Editor-in-Chief REBECCA BISSET to Evoke Beauty, a facial and nail salon in Duxton, to test-drive a cryotherapy facial. Read on for her review! About the facial

Evoke Beauty’s cryotherapy facial uses the patented X°CRYO device, designed and made in Finland by Cryotech Nordic. The easy-to-use device is available in a range of hand-held applicators, which means it can be applied not only on the face, but also on achy spots on the body like the joints and muscles. How does it work? The X°CRYO uses an adjustable, high-velocity air-flow to create a positive thermashock of the target area at a higher air temperature (minus 30°C) than many cryotherapyrelated systems. The air-flow brings oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood to the treated area, thus boosting blood circulation and collagen production. Cryotherapy helps to build up the immune protection of skin that’s damaged with eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. The safe and non-invasive facial treatment heals and treats the skin without any risk of frostbite or downtime. You can look forward to better and healthier skin overall. Immediate effects include a bright and glowy base with reduced inflammation, smoothened dry patches and lessened pigmentation.

Rebecca’s review

Up the stairs of a classic Duxton shophouse is a lovely, light and Scandistyle salon split into two areas: facials and nails.

Cryotherapy (or cold therapy) involves exposing your face or any part of your body to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes. It stimulates the system and gets the blood flowing, which in turn helps the body heal itself.

Cryotherapy activates collagen production, heals broken capillaries, and helps to reduce pigmentation marks, dry skin and spots. For other areas of the body, it can reduce skin inflammations, alleviate muscle and joint pain, and even treat migraines. I’m a big fan of using cold therapy as a healing tool (and regularly use ice packs at home), so I was very excited to hear that this device was now available in Singapore.

The facial cleanse and massage by Tanya was lovely. It was very relaxing and all the natural skincare products she used on me smelled really good. These are all pure, natural products tested and produced in Scandinavia. Formulated with no harmful chemicals, they’re also vegan, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. (You can find the products at thenordicglow.com.)

After this, the cold mask was placed on my face. There’s no real discomfort, until an area on the top of my forehead got a bit of “brain freeze”. Tanya was quick to remove it once it happened, but it was apparently the kick-start I needed. She then used another nozzle to blow the cold air on my neck and décolletage, which is much worse than my face as far as wrinkles go. That felt fairly pleasant, with no discomfort.

Now, a couple of days after the treatment, a dry patch on my cheek is looking a lot better – as is my neck and chest. My skin also seems softer.

There are several options available. Cryotherapy can be incorporated into a full-length facial, or it can be done as a quick facial treatment on its own, which takes only 15 minutes and costs just $45. Plus it can be done with makeup on! I’m going to try and go on a regular basis. I reckon in a few years I can look 21 again. (Okay, maybe 45?)
