The Superlatives

-

What are your three favourite places to eat or drink in the neighbourhood?

We love to go to Kanpai in Robertson Quay; the vibe is really chilled and it’s toddler-friendly as it’s right on the square where Harry is able to roam around safely.

Occasionally, we enjoy walking down the river to PS.Cafe for some brekkie and coffee. We do so mostly during the weekends and we try to get there early before the crowd hits! Zion Riverside Food Centre is also a good place to get some authentic local food. It’s currently under renovation but it should reopen soon and we can’t wait to visit some of our favourite local stores there.

What are the best places to shop at in the neighbourhood?

We enjoy getting our groceries from CS Fresh in Great World City, which is a new concept for Cold Storage. It brings in more fresh items and the variety is much wider as well – it even sells fresh oysters there (though I don’t eat oysters, so I can’t comment much on how they taste!). I also enjoy going to Scoop or The Source to get some little bits and pieces. Most of their produce is organic and you can pick up how much you need so there’s no wastage at all. Therapy Market in Great World City is a nice little local store that has interesting items from various brands – quite a nice range for a little retail therapy at times!

What are some fun or interesting things to do in the neighbourhood?

We enjoy walking up and down the river as a family. If we head down the left side it leads to Robertson Quay, and if we head right it leads us towards Alexandra, so it’s quite a nice little walk. We also enjoy walking to Tiong Bahru during the weekends; it has such a nice local vibe with interesting little café finds as well, so it’s worth the walk when it isn’t too hot. We get to treat ourselves to a piping hot “pau” from Tiong Bahru Pau during our walk too!

What’s one thing you’d never change?

The swimming pool on the third floor – in a place like Singapore, a regular dip in the pool is a must!

How about one thing you would change?

Some of the construction noise – some parts of the apartment block are currently undergoing refurbishments.

If the city gave you a million dollars to soup up your street, how would you use it?

Maybe build an MRT station directly underneath Great World City!
