The environment at Blue House is often referred to as the “third teacher” – spaces at the school are designed with intent and inspiration to encourage encounters, communication and relationships. As the school is nestled deep in nature, there are a multitude of outdoor areas that allow educators to set up different experiences to encourage play and take learning outside.

Children also have access to a wide range of open-ended, natural and recycled materials to support the unhurried development of their skills and knowledge by pursuing ideas, testing theories, problem solving and researching.

There are curated spaces of purposeful design such as courtyards, the community garden with a water fountain, large sandpits and a mud kitchen. And there’s a dedicated outdoor space for the nursery and preschool children, plus access to fields for playing different games, nature and community walks, water play and sensory play.

Blue House students have endless opportunities to learn and play outside – they’re not bound by strict schedules or specific time periods. This flexibility allows educators to acknowledge children’s decisions and intent, without infringing on the day’s programme.

A parent’s thoughts…

“Blue House has an incredible community and beautiful school ground located in a nature area off Turf Club Road and next to a quaint horse stable – drop-offs are always exciting as different animals can be spotted as the children make their way into class! The mix of indoor and outdoor spaces is unmatched and no day is ever the same for our curious children.”
