Woman ON THE RUN

Here’s how running transformed this physiotherapist’s life, and how she brings her personal passion for the sport into her clinical practice.

HelloPhysio founder JENNY HUANG credits the success of running her own physiotherapy practice to the sport of running – a passion she discovered a decade ago as a single full-time mum dealing with a series of unfortunate life events. That’s when running “found” her, she says – and it became a constant that kept her going.

“Running gave me the confidence that I needed during a difficult point in my life. There was a peace in the repetition of doing something over and over again, gaining strength and getting faster,” she says. “Beyond the endorphin highs, I love that it also gives me the strength to continually believe in myself.”

Just a year into running, Jenny became a podium-placing athlete. When she decided to take on a 100-kilometre ultra-marathon just to show her kids “that their mom could finish”, she came home with the first-place trophy! “I know things in life should be more intrinsically motivated but it’s rewarding to know that what I did shows my kids that they can accomplish anything they strive for,” she says.

A Winning Formula

In 2019, Jenny showed off yet another feat: successfully launching her own physiotherapy practice, HelloPhysio, which specialises in sports physiotherapy for injury, post-op rehabilitation, and chronic pain management. Determined to put patients front and centre, Jenny cultivated an experienced team of physiotherapists, Pilates instructors, sports massage therapists and alternative therapists.

“I see my role working with patients as a catalyst of healing, and patient care as a team approach,” she says. Some of the most common injuries she sees include overuse injuries like shin splints, calf muscle strains, ankle sprains and plantar fasciitis from newer runners, and more chronic conditions like Achilles tendonitis in more seasoned athletes.

Fundamental to HelloPhysio’s success is an integrated approach that combines traditional manual therapy with the latest non-invasive technologies to reach where hands can’t. This includes Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction

Therapy, INDIBA radiofrequency, Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, NovoTHOR Red Light Therapy, and LightSpeedLift.

With this winning combination, Jenny says patient outcomes have benefited through the quickened healing effects for both acute and chronic cases.

“Ultimately, our goal is to help quicken healing to get patients back into their daily lives faster. It’s through this evidence-based model of treatment and patient empowerment through education that we help athletes and clients return to pain-free movement,” she says.

In fact, the approach proved so successful that Jenny launched a second clinic, HelloPhysio Rehab, in 2021 to meet the growing demand of patients looking to live pain-free.

“Being an entrepreneur is just like running – it’s step by step. Know your immediate steps, but always work to be where you want to be. Be okay with mistakes, but continue to learn about the exciting new world,” she says.

“I think the most important thing is running your own race and muting the noise of what other people want you to be.”
